The Jefferson family – Minus Two
After much consideration, we decided to take a vacation without the entire family. This would be the first time we’d go on a family vacation without all family members. We have two other college kids enrolled in summer courses that couldn’t go which condensed our family to a party of three.
Since this would be a new experience for us all, we decided to make it special. Our youngest daughter, Faith, has spent most of her life in gyms and football bleachers supporting her brother and sister. We thought it’d be a great idea to plan a trip that focused on her for a change. We let her choose the travel destination and she chose NYC. Although Shawn and I had visited NYC before, we wanted Faith’s first vacation without her older sister and brother to be one she’d never forget.
Mike Horton from Travelennium connected us with Kitt Garrett of Discover New York and Beyond. This has to be said…Kitt is a ROCKSTAR! She created the perfect itinerary and provided the perfect people to fit our family. Kitt made sure that our six days in the city would be nothing short of amazing. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by our driver, who we became quite fond of throughout our visit. We stayed at a great hotel (which suited us perfectly) that provided one of the best views NYC has to offer. Each night of our stay, we’d receive a special token that reflected our day’s events.
During our trip, Faith was able to meet the pastry chef from the hotel, get an appointment with a highly sought after nail artist and attend her first Broadway show, Aladdin. We were fortunate to participate in private tours throughout the week, including some iconic landmarks. I must mention a really cool gem that’s a part of Kitt’s team…Kitt has this great guide who is a fabulous historian that became a friend pretty quickly. She thoroughly walked us through the history of the boroughs of NY. We were able to see the grandeur of uptown, have lunch in the real Little Italy, view the beauty of some of the oldest churches around the city, explore the city like a native and much, much more. We also did the usual tourist sites but our guide was able to give us a New Yorker’s point of view that we would not have otherwise had. We are very thankful to Kitt and her team for making our NYC family vacation the most memorable ever!
