John Burson – Girls’ Weekend in NYC

For a great girls’ weekend in New York City, the personal secretary of a client of mine called to arrange an overnight trip to New York City that she (her employer) wanted to put together. The purpose was to take several of her friends up for a collective birthday celebration. The plan was simple – they would fly up, have lunch and go see two shows that are sold out for months with dinner in between. The next day would be spent shopping followed by an afternoon flight home. There would be eight of them, and, oh yes – this was going to happen in about four weeks time!

Without missing a beat, I hung up from that call and immediately called Kitt at Discover New York and Beyond. I have known Kitt for years and was very familiar with her stellar reputation for all things New York. I described the request and within seconds she was mapping out dining venues, selecting the hotel and putting together a shopping program for the ladies.  Once my client approved the proposal, Kitt magically secured center orchestra tickets for the group (which grew to 11), booked rooms at the hotel, had the arrival day’s lunch, dinner and next day’s lunch reservations secured and assigned her best guide to be with them for the shopping trip.

Their guide met the jet at Teterboro and for the first day was primarily a transportation coordinator getting the ladies from dining venues to theatres to hotel, etc. But the great rapport was instant – the ladies LOVED her and even invited her to join them for lunch on the first day. As a complete surprise to all, including me, Kitt had arranged for the official Parade photographer to take a group photo outside of Lincoln Center, with each lady receiving a copy of the photo the next day at lunch. And at bedtime, as another surprise, each birthday gal got a special amenity delivered to their hotel room designed exclusively by the hotel’s pastry chef. Needless to say, shopping the Garment District was a major home run! And with no weight restrictions on the plane, the sky was the limit – literally!

Thanks to Kitts’ creativity, her passion for detail, perfection and her unending knowledge of the ins and outs of the great city that is New York, my client provided her friends with an over-the-top birthday celebration that I am sure will be talked about for years to come.
