Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has arrived on Broadway after a successful run in London’s West End, having won the London Lifestyle Awards in 2015. The story centers around Charlie Bucket, a sweet natured child with a vivid imagination who lives with his almost destitute family. Charlie loves chocolate and his most anticipated birthday gift is to receive a bar of chocolate and make it last as long as possible.
Willy Wonka is a world-famous inventor and owner of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. He’s created a contest for five lucky winners to take a tour of his factory if they purchase a chocolate bar that has a golden ticket sealed inside the wrapper. Charlie and four other golden ticket winners and their guardians embark on a journey through Wonka’s wondrous world.
Joshua Bergasse’s choreography is very cleverly executed by Wonka’s workers called Oompa-Loompas and a band of nutty squirrels. Tony-winner Christian Borle (Something Rotten!, Falsettos) is delightful as Willy Wonka. A new score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a sweet romp through the world of imagination.
Recommended for audiences who love family entertainment and inspiration to imagine the world of possibilities.
