Picnic in Times Square Opens This Winter in New York City
Posted on Jan 10, 2013
This production of William Inge’s Pulitzer Prize-winning slice of life play seems a bit dated despite a terrific cast of stage and screen veterans.
Set in a small town in Kansas in the 1950’s, the single ladies are preparing for their annual picnic on the last day of summer. The arrival of a handsome drifter challenges them to examine their lives, their relationship and own passions with men. The story line questions American values, gender roles and generational perspectives. They are as valid today as they were then.
The young and beautiful Madge has to choose between her safe, sensible boyfriend or the dangerous drifter with a questionable past. It’s an interesting test of wills between a mother and daughter.
Too slow moving for most audiences under 18 for the first act.
Opening 13 Jan 2013
Closing 24 Feb 2013
