Forbidden Broadway: Alive & Kicking is to Broadway What Saturday Night Live is to Politics!
Posted on Dec 7, 2012
Think that you have seen everything on Broadway? Take a trip down memory lane with Forbidden Broadway: Alive & Kicking. In 1 hour and 40 minutes, you can relive these shows with a sense of humor from four very talented cast members. It’s a fun evening and a perfect tie in before or after at Joe Allen’s for dinner.
An off-Broadway staple, Forbidden Broadway has been around for 30 years and Alive & Kicking marks the 21st edition of the show.
This spoof is a musical revue that features 27 short songs and sketches lampooning Broadway’s most popular shows and most iconic stars. The talented four person cast alternates scenes, impersonating and making fun of stars like Steve Kazee, Audra McDonald, Matthew Broderick, Idina Menzel and Patti LuPone. You don’t have to be a musical theater expert to enjoy the show, which carefully sets up each parody with lyrics that explain, for example, what’s new with Sondheim revivals and why Spider-Man was controversial. Shows on the chopping block include Evita, Newsies, Annie, The Book of Mormon and Nice Work If You Can Get It and even TV’s Smash has made it into this show. If you have any interest in Broadway shows and stars, you will have a fabulous time at Forbidden Broadway.
How many of these 27 shows have you seen and which were your favorites?
