2nd Avenue Subway Finally Opens in NYC New Year’s Eve!
Posted on Dec 28, 2016
Finally, after 100 years of work and delays, the 2nd Avenue Subway will open the first section on December 31st, just a day before the line will be open to the public. Governor Cuomo & Mayor Bill di Blasio will ride on the Second Ave Subway’s Inaugural Ride New Year’s Eve.
The initial ride is reserved for press and co-hosted by NYC organizations including the Central Park Conservancy, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, and The Met.
The train will depart from 72nd Street at 10:30 p.m. and stop at all the new stations; MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast will also be joining, as well as Mayor de Blasio, community members and business owners along the line.
The new line will be a welcome relief for the thousands of commuters who have waited so long for additional transportation options on a north south route.
