This has been an interesting month of travel criss crossing the country. Portland, Maine is a great place to savor a lobster roll waterside at Demillo's, 25 Long Wharf in Portland. It is best known for the fact that it's located aboard a converted ferry car on Portland's waterfront and it's a quick trip on Jet Blue from JFK.

The Bacara in Santa Barbara is perfect for a weekend get-a-way on the ocean if you have a car. The parking lot is an outdoor showroom for Bentley's, Ferraris, Mercedes and BMW's. California is definitely a car state. For those of us who don't drive, attending a conference there is challenging. The property is isolated with a $50+ taxi ride each way into town and then back. So, if you want a simple sandwich off property, you're looking at $100 plus the cost of the meal. Decide to go and stay and just have your meals there. The food is good with resort prices. The rooms are in clustered buildings each with a gas fireplace and spacious bathroom. Room service will bring a coffee pot to your room for an extra $10.

If you want to enjoy the city of Santa Barbara, stay downtown. When departing from the Santa Barbara airport, make sure that you have lip gloss in your quart size bag of potions and lotions or the TSA officials will be most displeased! They are stricter there than anywhere I've been.

Our ADME (Association of Destination Management Executives) conference was held in New Orleans, which is now a patchwork quilt of experiences. Depending upon the patch, you will see a very different city. The French Quarter and Garden District are beautiful and alive with shops filled with interesting inventory and great food. Other areas remain waiting for investors to snap them up and remove the boards from the windows and invite the visitors inside. New Orleans is no place to try to watch calories and diet! Dinner at Stella and Mr. B's was delicious.

For those of you who have worked with Emily Whelan in the past, Emily is now Emily Anschlowar.  The wedding took place on Saturday in New Orleans, so this was a double treat for me to be there.

ADME’s charity this year will benefit Tipitina's. Instruments A Comin' is a catalyst that raises awareness of public music education, and provides material support for school music programs since the devastating losses due to Hurricane Katrina. Your unused musical instruments and financial donations can make a real difference for the future of a young New Orleans musician.

Tipitina's Foundation is seeking tax-deductible donations of cash and of musical instruments in playable condition, as replacements for the thousands lost in Katrina.  The instruments will be given to working musicians, music students and school music programs to help restore the musical culture of New Orleans.

Please let your friends, associates and clients know that they can contribute to the rebirth-place of Jazz by sending musical instruments that have been hiding in attics, closets, and basement or by giving that all-important cash donation to purchase larger instruments, such as sousaphones, that are badly needed but rarely donated.

Please send all your donations to:

Mark Fowler
Tipitina's Music Office Co-op
501 Napoleon Avenue
New Orleans, LA 70115
OR Nancy Trosclair, DMCP
Destination New Orleans
53 Echezeaux Dr.
Kenner, LA  70065

The Co-op phone number, for shipping paperwork only, is (504) 891-0580. If you have donation-related questions, please email mfowler@tipitinas.com.

Be sure to identify your donation as an ADME related contribution.

Please put your name, mailing address and e-mail address on a sheet of paper inside the instrument case, and they will send a letter of thanks to you that can be used for tax deduction purposes. You can determine the value of the instrument donated when you fill out your tax forms.

For more information please go to  https://tipitinasfoundation.org/donate/default.asp

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Am in Istanbul now on my way to Athens tomorrow and will write more about these experiences in next month's newsletter and share some tips for you.

The "new" Delta is interesting at least on International flights trying to be green. The amenities kit is now a disposable paper bag and the goodies inside are each packaged ın smaller paper bags such as the ear plugs and toothbrush.

On a recent flight to San Francisco, American Airlines passed out packets of cashews that contained half or pieces and the label showed that the offer expired in December.  My flight was in January so the inventory is “how old”?

Going green is catching on in a variety of ways and we are trying to be more green too.  In addition to offering transfers in hybrid cars, DNY stopped printing brochures two years ago and asks clients to please see our website for a “filing cabinet” of information about virtually anything in NYC. Kitt’s Picks provides favorite museums, restaurants and theater.

Pricing for transportation and over 180 private experiences by category of interest are all a click away. Each page can be e-mailed by going to file, send as an e-mail where you can then write a personal note and use the experience as a gift certificate idea for birthdays, anniversaries and graduation gifts to be used at a later time.  Spread the knowledge and be green at the same time. It's fun and easy.
