In the May issue of our newsletter, I mentioned that I was on my way to Australia and would pass my notes and thoughts to you in this month's issue so that you can help your clients and friends make the best decisions about where to stay and what to do.

Sydney has a wonderful variety of hotels. The InterContinental has an executive level with a wrap around terrace.  The canopy beds in the suites in the Observatory Hotel and their Juliette balcony's at the Rocks overlook Sydney Harbor.  The views from the Four Seasons with their Club level provide great service and view views of the Opera House and harbor. The Four Seasons and InterContinental Executive Club access both include complimentary pressing each day, omelet’s or poached eggs made to order with breakfast, evening cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and complimentary business center access. The Four Seasons Hotel should be finished with their room renovations by October.

Restaurants worth trying: AKI for new Indian at the wharf at Wollamaloo, Bathers Pavilion in Mosman, and 41 in the center of Sydney. Try fresh Sydney Rock Oysters, tiger and king prawns at the fish market. Doyles at the Rocks is a great substitute if you cannot make it to Watson's bay with it's stunning views of the Sydney Opera House.

Billy Elliot was playing in Sydney and all the press coming from London was accurate. This production will be a huge hit in NY!  You can call us for tickets.

In Melbourne, the Arts Center is fabulous.  I saw Neil Sadaka in concert. He's beyond talented and it was a great evening. The Arts Center has extremely comfortable seating with lots of leg room and is an easy two minute walk from the Langham Hotel.

The Langham hotel has an interesting restaurant concept using different stations that are open to the public serving a buffet stations each meal. You can pair wine flights with either lunch or dinner.

The executive club is open for continental breakfast, afternoon tea and hors d'oeuvres in the evening with computer access even when not staffed with hotel employees. Book a river view room at a minimum. The location is amazing and within walking distance to a huge variety of restaurants and shopping within the Southgate area.

The stores and markets in Melbourne are delightful with boutiques specializing in olive oil, chocolates, spices, fresh produce and seafood plus locally designed and produced clothing options.

Oysters are fresh and it's easy to enjoy them with a wedge of lemon straight from the shells at either the Victoria or Pyrham markets.

Take time to visit the Little Penguins at Phillips Island. It's about two hours from Melbourne. The Little Penguins land on the beach just after sunset nightly and they are darling to watch as they march to their nesting spots. A cafeteria provides options after viewing, but it's a stretch to call it dining.

It is with great pride that we announce that Cheryl Smith will be leaving us to become the Director of Sales at the Plaza Athenee.  After four years, Cheryl has built a wonderful relationship with all of our clients.  We are extremely proud that her talents, energy and care for our clients will continue as she changes careers from Destination Management to the Hotel Industry.  Cheryl will use her married name at the Plaza Athenee, Cheryl Plonski.  Danny Moran will receive your inquires for FIT requests and I will continue to work with corporate and leisure groups.  Danny’s e-mail is dmoran@dnykg.com.  My personal e-mail is kittgarrett@dnykg.com

We look forward to helping each of you go beyond the New York that you already know!
