Taking you beyond the New York that you already know has been our goal since we opened the company.  Manhattan has been the primary focus of interest.  New York City is made up of five boroughs: The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Manhattan.

Brooklyn is getting the most attention right now. If Brooklyn were still an independent city, it would be the fourth largest city in the US with a population of 2.6 million, just 200,000 less than Chicago. As we celebrate Independence Day this year, remember that Brooklyn played a part in the Revolution with the Battle of Brooklyn.

The Marriott built a hotel in Brooklyn a couple of years ago. It has been so successful, that they have added 160 rooms.  New hotels are opening along with delightful restaurants.  New designers are moving to Brooklyn to open stores and offices in the fields of art, architecture, clothing and furniture. DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is a neighborhood that is attracting visitors and locals to taste the divine chocolate of Jacques Torres and explore galleries and visit artist’s studios in Williamsburg.  Park Slope is known for its restaurants and historic Brownstone homes and the prices are soaring as more young people enter the neighborhood.

For those of you who have not been able to take the time to discover Brooklyn, now is a great time to explore this borough. There are so many neighborhoods within Brooklyn that you need more than one day.  The Brooklyn Museum has one the best collections of Egyptian Art in the world.  Judy Chicago’s exhibit The Dinner Party, 1974–79 is a combination of mixed media: ceramic, porcelain and textile.  The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens are adjacent to the museum, so that you can see both on the same visit.

Other interesting attractions include Brooklyn Height’s historic brownstone homes and the Promenade, Coney Island’s historic amusement park and boardwalk, million dollar homes along the scenic Shore Road in Bay Ridge, the Brooklyn Army Terminal where Elvis shipped off to Germany in 1958.

Spend a couple of hours at the Aquarium, eat at Nathan’s original hot dog stand or enjoy a leisurely authentic Russian lunch on the boardwalk in Brighton beach. The Victorian homes in Flatbush have landmark status and you’ll understand why when you see them.  Stop at the Hassidic community of Crown Heights to learn more about the people and their culture.  Enjoy the outdoors walking through Greenwood Cemetery.  Permanent residents of Greenwood include Leonard Bernstein, Louis Comfort Tiffany, store owner Charles Tiffany, newspaperman Horace Greeley, the Mad Poet, the Indian Princess, the Soda Fountain King, mobster Albert Anastasia, Coney Island showman George Tilyou, a Titanic victim, and many more.  This gorgeous garden is a must see for anyone who loves horticulture and history.
