"We help you turn the ordinary into the extraordinary!"

Thank you for all of your comments about the monthly newsletter. We are delighted that you are enjoying it. Please do visit our new website for program details with pricing. You will find the prices for transfers, tours, helicopter rides, all listed there.

Thank you to Wendy Perrin and Condé Nast Traveler for choosing us as their exclusive “Destination Specialist for New York City” for the second consecutive year!  We are thrilled to be included amongst the top travel specialists around the world.

I didn't know you did that!

Can you help us offer spouse programs for our corporate meeting for about 400 attendees?
Yes, we’d be delighted to help your attendees and spouses discover the best that New York has to offer by their area of interest.  Your budget will help determine the number of attendees that will participate in each experience.  For instance, a group of 40 on a motorcoach coach will cost almost half as much as what 20 passengers will cost on a per person basis.  Let us know the purpose of the trip, the dates, the background and interest of the attendees and we’ll create an experience that meets your budget.

What can you offer for us to learn more about how Broadway shows are created and financed?
Getting a production on Broadway takes a team of creative people and financial backing.  Call us to meet with a Broadway producer or Director and learn what it really takes to get a show to open on the Great White Way!  You’ll meet one on one and be able to ask questions.  One of the stars from the show that you will see will come and perform for you personally so that you can understand what it is like to go through the audition process and be selected.

It is a pleasure to be able to share news with you about some of our colleagues that can help you take care of both groups and individuals when they are visiting their destinations.

Linda Viviani, destination specialist for Napa Valley has added help for you in San Francisco.  You can reach Linda at: LVTCINC@aol.com.  Jackie Chutter can help you with requests for Washington, DC in addition to Virginia.  You can reach Jackie at Jackie@vaescape.com.  Both of these ladies know the areas and can make wonderful recommendations for you to see their locations by taking you to very special places not open to the public.

My son, Brent, sent the following to me and I wanted to share it with you.  Initially, I thought, we don’t have to worry about these things in NYC because we don’t have cars or parking lots and don’t drive.  However, the more I thought about it, I realized that many people come into the New York airports and get into cars with people that just walk up to them and ask them if they want a “taxi” or “limo” to take them to their hotel.  You have absolutely no idea who these people are, yet passengers simply get into cars with total strangers at the end of a long flight when their guard is down and they are tired.

Please, read this and remember to use only licensed yellow cabs or let us book a limousine service for you.

1

Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2

Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you....chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3

If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4

Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

a.
If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5

A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

a.

Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.

b.

If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

c.

Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
(And better paranoid than dead.)

6

ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7

If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8

As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP. It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

From all of us at Discover New York, be safe.
